Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

ย

Is there a cost to register?

No โ€” registration is completely free for fire chiefs and volunteer fire departments. There are no fees at any point in the program.

Does the firefighter need to be certified before registering?

Yes. The firefighter must be a volunteer firefighter, they can not be a paid firefighter.ย

How is the $2,500 paid out?

Payment is made directly to the chied once they have completed two years of active service from the certification submission date. The Foundation will contact the firefighter directly when they become eligible.

What if a firefighter leaves before two years?

If a firefighter is no longer active before the two-year mark, they are not eligible for the payout. Fire chiefs are responsible for keeping their roster up to date in the portal.

Can I add more firefighters later?

Yes โ€” fire chiefs can add new firefighters to their roster at any time through the portal. Each firefighter’s countdown starts independently when their certification is submitted.

Is the program available in all states?

Yes. The program is currently open to volunteer fire departments across the United States. Contact us if you have questions about eligibility in your specific state.
